Rockport took walking shoes to new heights with World Tour Elite Encounter in terms of comfort and improved sole design.
Outlook: very stylish for a walking shoe. I can dress them up or down, and they do well with nearly every type of clothing in my wardrobe. I own two pair: black and dark brown--both tumbled finish. Unlike the Rockport World Tour Classic, the edge of the shoe's sole seem to hold up better. The laces are classic Rockport. Build quality is excellent and made of high quality materials.
Sole: Unlike the Classic, the Elite line has a one piece sole which won't start to peel off when the sole wears thinner at the edges. Traction seems better than the Classic based upon the groove designs in the sole.
Comfort: I wear a D width, and these are excellent. My feet feel balanced, stable and with a secure feeling when walking on any surface. The heel counter ensures my feet never slip out. Lacing up ensures great pressure distribution across the top of the foot. The Elite Encounter feels much more substantial than the Classic without adding any weight. I found the tongue of the shoe to be slightly short though it has not posed much of a functional problem to me. In the few times when I'm running in them, they are remarkably stable shoes. I feel sure footed when wearing these.
Laces: Typical Rockport laces never stay tied more than an hour. Candle wax or Chapstick on the laces at the point where the knot is tied should cure retie frequency though double knotting is equally effective though it is more work and not as neat looking.
Compared them to Ecco walker.
Conclusion: For a slightly higher price over the Classic, the Rockport World Tour Elite Encounter is clearly a step ahead. It blends nice, conservative style with Rockport's legendary comfort. Traction is secure in the Elite, an all within a budget that won't have you second guessing the decision to buy.
